Curatorial Co-Chairs' Welcome

During the three months the curatorial committee took to build this year's collection, we looked at an incredible amount of submissions from across Canada (including Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal, Halifax…even Yellowknife), works of art that are intellectually stimulating, conceptually rigorous and/or simply beautiful to look at. Keeping the auction under 80 pieces was a challenge. When considering whether to accept a piece, the committee members asked themselves many questions, including: How committed is this artist to their art? Can we detect an evolution in this artist's practice? What is their exhibition history and do they have exhibitions coming up? What is the gallery's reputation? As a result of this process, the works in this year's auction will, in the committee's opinion, definitely enrich the lives of their new owners, and may also appreciate in value monetarily in the years to come.

Speaking of valuable things, our experience as co-chairs of this year's curatorial committee is one that we will treasure forever. It has been an honour and a privilege to be involved with a place as unique and amazing as Casey House. We can not extend a big enough thank you to all of the artists and gallerists who enthusiastically donated to the auction this year, or to the rest of the curatorial committee who gave so much of their time wholeheartedly. Much gratitude is also extended to Fernanda and the staff at Akau for once again undertaking the monumental task of providing quality framing for all the art works.

But it is up to you now. Don’t let the generosity stop. Remember, the money raised at Art with Heart translates into increased dignity and independence for people in our community who are living with HIV/AIDS.

Have a wonderful time at this year's event and happy bidding!
